The Rainbow Centre is a truly remarkable place. It uses Conductive Education to help children and adults with neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s Disease, multiple sclerosis and those recovering from strokes or head injuries, to regain a level of independence. It essentially ‘re-programmes’ the brain to help people walk again. The sheer determination of both the staff at the centre and the children who attend it is inspirational.
I designed two gardens for the Rainbow Centre, both with help from BBC grants. One is for the children to enjoy ‘The Play Away Sensory Garden’, with specialised bespoke climbing and play equipment intermingled with sensory zones, and the second a wildlife garden for adults (but the children love it too!), ‘The Play Away Wild Garden’, with many sensory plants, a lovely Camomile lawn, scented pergola, bird, bat and hedgehog boxes and a trickling water feature.
The 'Play Away Wild Garden' was featured recently on BBC2’s Springwatch... video clip coming soon! To see a preview click here
